ana_anasi

Frei nach James Berry, “Anansi and the hidden garden”

"Das Wilde Klingen produces with ana_anansi a mythological tale from the caribbean islands. Its strong musical impact led to the decision to perform this piece and transform it into an improvised chamber opera with political and ecological relevance. The trickster anansi, a god - like spider creature, hears about a beautiful garden of fruit trees growing out of stones that belongs to the goddess of nature (ana). The greedy creature wants to possess the garden for his own profit and plans a conspiracy against its owner. With the help of the black birds, who deceive the gardener by imitating his melodic music, the trickster tries to get rid of him and the goddess. But his seemingly clever plan turns into a real disaster, when the music starts to evolve its own dynamic and causes nature, garden and the goddess to completely loose control.

In this play Das Wilde Klingen deals with global ecocide, hidden in a mythological tale. Caused by profit- orientated, greedy “creatures”, like multi-national companies who work together with despots from all over the world, our own consume - orientated and for that reason unethical behaviour is mirrored in the tricksters foul play. The world market and the capitalistic system of accumulating goods and exploiting women, men and children, pervades through all societies. It leads not only to the decrease of biodiversity, but also kills the - for human beings so important - inherent spirituality of nature. It causes a loss of social awareness and reciprocal responsibilites."

"Das Wilde Klingen" is a music theater ensemble that explores mythological themes and texts and interprets them in a contemporary manner. Sound, gesture, word and dance are interacting with one another and pushing the content forward. The instrumental and gestural improvisation is used to give narative impulses, while the spoken word is also becoming a possible device for improvisation. Aside from the search for esthetic means, the group investigates and reveals political contents in the stories. It is dealing for example with ecozide, the role of strong mythological or god-like women in the plays or the mythological influences of immigrants from other cultures: the important question is which topics are still essential for social human interaction and the individual in general.
